Itinerary
Acclimatize: Leh is at a high altitude (11,500 feet), so take it easy and allow your body to adjust. Check into your hotel or guesthouse. Rest and hydrate, as altitude sickness is common. Evening: Leh Market Take a leisurely stroll around the Leh market to get a feel for the place. Explore local shops selling traditional Ladakhi handicrafts and artifacts. Have dinner at a local restaurant (try Ladakhi dishes like Thukpa or Skyu).
Visit Leh Palace, a 17th-century royal palace that offers panoramic views of the city. Head to Tsemo Monastery, which is located on a hill behind the palace, for great views of Leh. Afternoon: Shanti Stupa Drive to the Shanti Stupa, a white-domed Buddhist monument built to promote world peace. Visit the beautiful Japanese-style stupa and enjoy stunning views of Leh and the surrounding mountains. Evening: Leh Market & Local Dining Return to the Leh market, where you can shop for souvenirs or enjoy a traditional meal. Explore local cafes for a relaxing evening.
Morning: Depart for Nubra Valley Leave early in the morning for Nubra Valley, crossing the world’s highest motorable road, Khardung La Pass (18,380 feet). Stop for photos at the pass, as the views are breathtaking. Afternoon: Visit Diskit Monastery Continue your journey to Diskit, the largest town in Nubra Valley, and visit Diskit Monastery, which houses a large statue of Maitreya Buddha.
Morning: Visit Panamik Village If time allows, visit Panamik village known for its natural hot springs. Afternoon: Drive to Pangong Lake Depart for Pangong Lake. The drive is about 5-6 hours and takes you through scenic landscapes, including barren mountains and high-altitude desert terrain. Stop for photos along the way. Evening: Pangong Lake Reach Pangong Lake in the late afternoon/evening. Enjoy the stunning views of the turquoise-blue lake, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. If you like, stay overnight in camps by the lake (pre-booking is recommended).
Morning: Sunrise at Pangong Lake Wake up early to witness the sunrise over the lake. The changing colors of the water and mountains are incredible. Late Morning: Depart for Leh Drive back to Leh via the same route. En route, stop at Chang La Pass (17,590 feet), the third-highest motorable pass in the world. Afternoon: Leh Monasteries (if time permits) On your return to Leh, you may have time to visit Hemis Monastery, one of the largest and wealthiest monasteries in Ladakh. Alternatively, visit Thiksey Monastery, which resembles the Potala Palace in Tibet. Evening: Leh Market & Rest Spend your last evening shopping or relaxing in Leh market.
Depending on your flight time, you may have a relaxed morning to explore or shop for last-minute souvenirs. Departure from Leh Airport.
